God's Sovereignty and Retirement

When we consider the question of why God took our retirement, we must first acknowledge His sovereignty over all aspects of our lives. God is not a distant, uncaring deity who simply observes our circumstances without intervening. Rather, He is actively involved in every detail, working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). This means that even our retirement can be seen as a part of God's plan for us, designed to bring us closer to Him or to prepare us for greater things.

Job's Experience and Ours

The biblical account of Job's experience can be a helpful guide in understanding God's purposes in our lives, including our retirement. Job, a righteous man, lost everything, including his health and his family. Yet, despite his suffering, Job did not turn away from God. Instead, he chose to trust in His sovereignty and goodness, even when he couldn't understand why God was allowing such trials. Similarly, when our retirement is taken away, we must choose to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we don't understand His plans.

God's Perspective and Our Response

From God's perspective, our retirement is not just a human experience, but an opportunity for Him to work in our lives and bring us into a deeper relationship with Himself. When we respond to God's sovereignty in our retirement by trusting in Him, we are not simply resigning ourselves to our circumstances, but rather, we are choosing to live by faith. This means that we must look to Jesus, the ultimate mediator between God and humanity, for guidance and strength. By doing so, we can find peace and contentment in the midst of uncertainty, knowing that God is working all things together for our good.
