Why did I have to lose everything?
Losing Everything: A Perspective on Suffering
Why did I have to lose everything? This question may arise from a place of sadness, frustration, or even despair. However, it is essential to consider the context of our lives and the sovereignty of God. As the Bible teaches, God created us to create and to live in a relationship with Him. When we create in a thoughtful and worshipful manner, we experience joy and fulfillment. On the other hand, when we create in a self-centered or idolatrous way, we may experience loss and suffering.
The Bible also reminds us that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). He often allows us to experience loss and suffering to refine us, to teach us valuable lessons, or to bring us closer to Himself. As Paul wrote, "I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord" (Philippians 3:8). In this sense, losing everything can be a gain, as it allows us to focus on what truly matters – our relationship with God and our walk with Him.
Rather than focusing on what we have lost, we should look beyond our present troubles and consider what God is teaching us through them. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This does not mean that our troubles are easy to bear or that we will always understand God's reasons for allowing them. However, it does mean that God is working all things together for our good, and that He is using our experiences to make us stronger and more like Christ. By trusting in God's sovereignty and goodness, we can find peace and hope even in the midst of loss and suffering.
