Your Question:
Can God really heal my relationship with my child?
Answer:
As a pastor and a father, I've seen firsthand the power of prayer in healing relationships with children. When we've blown it with our kids, the right way to bring healing is to ask for their forgiveness, name what we did wrong, and identify how our words or actions hurt them. This not only restores our relationship with our child but also demonstrates to them that we live under the authority of Jesus and are willing to change and grow together in His grace. As a parent, I've learned that it's never too late to ask God to penetrate our child's heart with His love and open it to receive our love and the love of others. If our child doesn't feel loved, we can begin now asking God to show us what we can do to communicate love to them. We shouldn't let guilt about past failures weigh us down, but instead, focus on repentance, prayer, and seeking God's guidance. In our family, we've experienced the healing power of prayer in our relationships. My wife, Susan, and I have apologized to our children, Joshua and Rebecca, when we've made mistakes, and we've seen God work in their hearts to forgive and move forward. As we pray for our children and seek God's guidance, we're reminded that He is at work in their hearts, giving us the courage we need to stand against wrong thinking and help them love and serve Him.
