Your Question:

is it okay to be angry at god?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with anger towards God, and I believe it's a complex issue. On one hand, it's natural to feel frustrated or upset when we're faced with suffering or injustice, and it's okay to acknowledge those feelings. However, as the passage from Psalm 7:11 suggests, God is angry with wickedness every day, and as his followers, we're called to reflect his character.

But what's interesting is that the Bible doesn't condemn anger outright. In fact, Jesus himself was angry at times, and we're commanded to refrain from sin and release our anger in a constructive way (Ps 4:4; Eph 4:26). The key is to distinguish between righteous and unrighteous indignation. If we're angry because we're hurt or affected by something, that's a different story than if we're angry because we're seeking revenge or justice in our own way.

Ultimately, as Christians, we need to be slow to anger and quick to forgive, just like God is (Ex 34:6). We need to recognize that anger can be a symptom of a deeper issue, like a lack of trust in God's goodness and sovereignty. When we're angry with God, it's often because we're questioning his love or power, and that's when Satan can sneak in and fuel our anger. As a pastor, my goal is to help people navigate these complex emotions and find a way to express their anger in a way that honors God.
