The Purpose of Faith in the Face of Suffering

When we encounter bad things happening in the world, it's natural to wonder if God is still good and powerful. We may even ask, "What's the point of having faith if God lets bad things happen?" However, this question reveals a misunderstanding of the nature of faith and God's sovereignty. Faith is not about understanding or explaining every event in the world, but about trusting in God's goodness and wisdom, even when we don't understand.

Understanding God's Sovereignty

The Bible teaches that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-good (Psalm 139:1-6, Romans 11:33). This means that God has a good reason for everything that happens, even if we don't understand it. We can trust that God's purposes are always good, even if they don't always seem that way to us (Romans 8:28). This doesn't mean that God causes evil or suffering, but rather that He allows it to happen in order to accomplish His greater purposes.

The Power of Faith in the Face of Suffering

Faith is not about ignoring the pain and suffering in the world, but about trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty in the midst of it.
