Biblical Answer

The question of how God views human life is multifaceted and complex. The Bible teaches that humans are made in the image of God (Gen 1:27, 5:1-3), which means that we have the capacity to reason, make moral choices, and understand the consequences of our actions. This is what distinguishes humans from the rest of creation. The image of God is not just a psychological or spiritual quality, but a comprehensive aspect of humanity that encompasses our rational, relational, and functional dimensions. Our relationship with God is the primary one, and when that is right, the other dimensions of life are positively affected. When that is not right, the other dimensions of life are adversely affected as well.

The Bible also teaches that God views human life as being made in His likeness, which means that we have the ability to reflect God's nature and character. This is evident in the fact that humans are capable of making rational choices and acting on them deliberately. We can choose to live in a way that is pleasing to God or to rebel against Him. God sees what we are freely doing, and He knows us perfectly. This means that God is not just a distant, impersonal deity, but a personal God who is actively involved in the lives of His people. He desires a relationship with us that is characterized by the fear of God and ethical behavior.

In terms of God's view of human life, the Bible teaches that He values it deeply. He is mindful of us and cares for us (Ps 8:4-8). He sees the good and the evil in our actions, and He judges us accordingly. However, God's view of human life is not just one of judgment, but also of redemption. He desires to restore us to a right relationship with Him, and He has the power to do so. This means that even in the midst of suffering, God is not absent, but is actively working to bring about a greater good. Ultimately, God's view of human life is one of love and redemption, and He desires to bring us into a relationship with Himself that will satisfy us completely. (Ps 16:11)
