The Problem of Moral Relativism and the Sovereignty of God

Moral relativism is the idea that right and wrong are relative and that what is right for one person may not be right for another. This perspective suggests that moral standards are subjective and depend on individual perspectives or cultural norms. However, as Christians, we believe that God is sovereign over all creation, including human morality. According to the Bible, God is the one who establishes moral standards and defines what is right and wrong.

In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul writes, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, 'The just shall live by faith'" (Romans 1:16-17). Here, Paul highlights the importance of God's righteousness, which is revealed through faith in Jesus Christ. This righteousness is not relative to individual perspectives or cultural norms, but is instead based on God's own character and standards. As Christians, we are called to live in accordance with God's righteousness, which is made possible through faith in Jesus Christ.

So, is there any way to make this right? The answer is yes, through faith in Jesus Christ and living in accordance with God's righteousness. The Bible teaches that we are all sinners, and that our sin separates us from God (Romans 3:23). However, through faith in Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven of our sins and restored to a right relationship with God (Romans 3:24-25). This is not a matter of personal opinion or cultural norms, but is instead based on God's own character and standards. As we live in accordance with God's righteousness, we can experience true freedom and fulfillment, even in the midst of a broken and fallen world. Therefore, the answer to the question of how to make things right is not to be found in relativistic moral standards, but rather in the sovereign and righteous character of God, revealed through faith in Jesus Christ.
