Why can't I just be happy for once?
I. Why can't I just be happy for once?
The concept of happiness is often misunderstood. True happiness comes from joy, not pleasure. Joy is a deeper and more lasting experience than pleasure. When we live consistently with God's will, we experience joy. However, when we live inconsistently, we may experience pleasure, but it is fleeting and temporary. The Bible teaches us that God's happiness is conditional upon ours. He saves us not only for His glory but also for His gladness. This means that our joy is not just a personal experience but also a source of joy for God.
II. The Problem of Unhappiness
Unhappiness is a common experience for many people. It can be caused by various factors, including sin, anger, resentment, envy, lust, and materialism. The Bible teaches us that these things destroy joy and make it impossible to live consistently and happily within the framework of such a worldview. However, God has already begun the renewal that will take place, and there are opportunities for joy today, not just when eternity arrives. Our Double Joy means that God's happiness is tied to ours, and He saves us for His glory and our joy.
III. Seeking Joy
To experience joy, we must be willing to look for it. We must welcome joy rather than feel like we are betraying our depression by looking for it. Joy is a no-risk proposition, and the worst that can happen is that we will honor God. The Bible promises us great joy, and we can choose to become experts in joy. Joy is possible, and it is not something that we can use up. It abides and grows over time as we add to what we have. By taking joy in the Spirit working within us, we can experience God's splendor over the sorrow of life. Ultimately, joy is a choice, and we can choose to seek it and experience it in our lives.
