Your Question:

How do I stay positive when everything seems lost?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with feelings of hopelessness and despair. But I've also seen the power of positive thinking and faith in overcoming even the darkest of circumstances. It's not about ignoring the problems or pretending they don't exist, but about changing our perspective and focusing on the good things in life. When we start to think negative thoughts, we need to stop ourselves and remind ourselves of the truth. As the Bible says, "Test all things, hold fast what is good" (1 Th 5:21).

For me, staying positive is about remembering the past victories God has given me. I think about the times when my wife Susan and I have faced challenges together, and how God has always seen us through. I think about the joy of watching my children, Joshua and Rebecca, grow and thrive. And I think about the blessings of serving as a pastor and being able to share the love of God with others. When I focus on these things, it helps me to stay positive and hopeful, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

As a Christian, I believe that our thoughts and attitudes are influenced by our spiritual reality. When we're struggling with depression or hopelessness, it's easy to get caught up in negative thoughts and feelings. But we need to remind ourselves of the truth of Christ and his love for us. We need to "force-feed" ourselves with Scripture and words of hope, and to be on guard against self-pity, grumbling, and complaining. By doing so, we can break free from the cycle of negativity and find joy and peace in our lives.
