The Nature of Suffering

Suffering is a reality that exists in the world, and it is not something that God desires. However, God allows suffering to exist in order to achieve a greater good. According to the Bible, God does not take delight in physical distress (Psalm 51:4), but he sometimes decides not to intervene in order to allow suffering to occur. This can be seen in the case of physical pain, which is a signal that something is wrong and needs to be addressed.

The Purpose of Suffering

The purpose of suffering is multifaceted. On one hand, suffering can be a means of discipline, as seen in the case of the Israelites in the wilderness (Deuteronomy 8:2-5).
