Understanding the Sovereignty of God

God's sovereignty is a crucial aspect of understanding why He takes away our ability to enjoy life. According to the Bible, God is the one who gives us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4). He is the one who determines what is good and what is evil (Deuteronomy 32:4). Our ability to enjoy life is not merely a mortal's choice, but a gift of God's grace. True enjoyment is the sovereign gift of God's grace; He decides who should have it and who should not.

The Purpose of God's Sovereignty

The purpose of God's sovereignty is to bring us into His purposes. When we understand that God's sovereignty is not just about Him doing what He wants, but also about bringing us into His purposes, we will no longer strive to find out what His purposes are. God grants us an area of autonomy (we can accept or reject Him), and this desire somehow arises out of that autonomy. Sometimes, we may not understand why God takes away our ability to enjoy life, but we can trust that He is working everything out for our good (Romans 8:28).

The Gift of Joy

The ability to enjoy life is a gift of God's grace. While we may not understand why God takes away our ability to enjoy life, we can trust that He is working everything out for our good. Joy is possible, and it is not something that we can manufacture on our own. We can choose to become experts in joy by focusing on the things that bring us joy in God. We can take joy in the Spirit working within us, and God's splendor can ascend over the sorrow of life. Joy is not something that we can find in the world, but it is a gift of God's grace that we can receive when we have a relationship with Him.
