Why can't I just die already?
The Problem with Dying
When we think about death, we often view it as the ultimate disaster. We fear it because it seems to be the end of everything. However, this perspective is not unique to us. Many people throughout history have shared this fear, including those who have sought to escape it through suicide. But as Christians, we must remember that God is life, and this fact should give us pause when considering death. Instead of seeing death as an end, we should view it as a transition to a new life, one that is free from the penalty of sin.
The Purpose of Death
So, why can't we just die already? The answer lies in the fact that death is not the ultimate achievement, but rather a consequence of sin. Jesus teaches us that those who kill can do no more. Death is not the ultimate goal, but rather a means to an end. The end is eternal life, and God has made a way for us to experience this through faith in Jesus Christ. As believers, we are required to experience death because it is a necessary part of our journey to eternal life. As the Bible says, "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). This means that death is not the end, but rather a transition to a new life, one that is governed by God's sovereignty.
The Sovereignty of God
But why can't we just die already? The answer lies in the sovereignty of God. God is in control of all things, including death. He has a purpose for our lives, and that purpose is not to end in death, but to live a life that reflects His values and teachings. As Psalm 139:16 says, "Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began." This means that God has a plan for our lives, and that plan includes death, but also includes a new life in Christ. As believers, we must trust in God's sovereignty and His plan for our lives, even when it includes death. By doing so, we can find peace and comfort in the midst of uncertainty. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This means that even death can be a part of God's good plan for our lives.
