Does God want me to be wealthy?
Does God want me to be wealthy?
God's Perspective on Wealth
God has all the resources in the world, and He doesn't need our money. However, when we properly offer our money to God, we magnify Him, which is worshipping Him. God doesn't need our service; He has all power to do anything that needs to get done. The Bible teaches that God gives riches and honor to whom He pleases (1 Samuel 2:7). This means that God's sovereignty is over all things, including wealth.
Jesus' Example of Wealth
The Bible teaches us that Jesus, who was rich, became poor for our sake so that we might become rich through His poverty (2 Corinthians 8:9). This statement is not about accumulating wealth but about having a right relationship with God. When we truly honour God, God honours our faith. His servants may not grow wealthy as the world understands riches, but they will not lack. The key is not to want to give wealth an inordinate place in our desires, so that truly honouring God would entail keeping our life free from the love of money.
The Relationship Between Wealth and Faith
The Bible teaches that it is possible to be poor in spirit and rich in faith (Matthew 5:3). When we truly seek to understand this statement, we must not distort the biblical picture of Jesus Christ. We must ask the Lord to show us how impoverished we are at the level of our hearts. What we truly desire is unfailing love, not wealth. As long as we are rich, particularly in the area of pride or independence, God can do nothing for us. It is only when we get hungry spiritually that we receive the Holy Spirit. The gift of the essential nature of God is placed and made effective in us by the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, God's desire for us is not wealth but a right relationship with Him. When we prioritize our relationship with God, He will take care of our needs.
