Can I Still Find Purpose in Life with a Terminal Illness?

When faced with a terminal illness, it can be challenging to find purpose in life. However, as Christians, we are called to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even in the midst of suffering. We can still find purpose in life with a terminal illness by recognizing that our suffering can be a platform for sharing hope with others. As the Bible says, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Our suffering can be an opportunity to be an ambassador of hope to those who are struggling, and to share the hope that we have in Christ.

In addition, our terminal illness can also be a catalyst for growth and spiritual maturity. As we face our own mortality, we are reminded of the importance of our relationship with God and the need to prioritize our faith. We can update our life plan and commitments, and continue to seek God's guidance and wisdom. We can also use our suffering as an opportunity to serve others and to demonstrate the love of Christ. As the Bible says, "Dear friend, do not be surprised when trials of many kinds come your way. Such trials are not a sign that you are being punished by God. Instead, they are a sign that God is at work within you, to make you strong, to make you patient, and to make you mature" (James 1:2-3). Our suffering can be a chance to grow in our faith and to become more like Christ.
