Biblical Answer

In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that material possessions and experiences are the keys to happiness. But as the saying goes, "let the current of culture carry you," and you may find yourself sacrificing relationships with your family for the sake of convenience or financial gain. This can lead to a life of experience-rich but relationship-poor, which can be a costly trade indeed.

However, as a Christian, I believe that relationships with our family are a vital part of our lives and should be prioritized. In fact, the Bible teaches us that family is a fundamental unit of society and that we should leave and cleave to our spouses, rather than being driven by our parents' wishes and expectations (Genesis 2:24). This means that we should be intentional about building strong relationships with our family members, rather than just going through the motions or relying on external factors like vacations to bring us closer together.

So, can you still have a relationship with your family if you can't afford to take them on trips? Absolutely! In fact, I would argue that it's often in the midst of everyday life that we have the opportunity to build deeper, more meaningful relationships with our family members. By being present and engaged with our loved ones, even in the midst of chaos or financial struggles, we can create a sense of unity and connection that goes far beyond any material possession or experience. As the Bible says, "Pray for your family relationships, whether it be with children, parents, stepparents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or friends" (Psalm 37:5-7). By prioritizing our relationships and seeking God's guidance and wisdom, we can build strong, lasting bonds with our family that will bring joy and fulfillment to our lives, regardless of our financial circumstances.
