Can I Lose God's Love?

The Bible does not teach that we can lose God's love. In fact, it emphasizes that God's love for us is a much safer subject to explore than our feelings towards Him. Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commands" (John 14:15). He didn't say, "If you feel my love, keep my commands." Our feelings can lie, but God's love for us is unconditional and unwavering.

Why We Think We Can Lose God's Love

There are several reasons why we might think we can lose God's love. One reason is that we often associate God's love with our emotions. We may feel distant from God or disconnected from Him, and we assume that this means He has abandoned us. However, feelings can be fleeting and unreliable. A more biblical perspective is that our love for God should be demonstrated through obedience to His commands, not just our emotional state. As Jesus said, "If you love me, keep my commands" (John 14:15).

The Unconditional Love of God

The Bible teaches that God's love for us is unconditional and unwavering. Jesus said, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness" (Jeremiah 31:3). This love is not based on our performance or our feelings, but on God's character and nature. As we surrender ourselves to God and abandon our own will, we can experience the fullness of His love. As the psalmist wrote, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). God's love is not something we can lose, but something we can experience more deeply as we draw closer to Him.
