How do I face my mortality when I'm still so young?
Facing Mortality: A Biblical Perspective
When we are young, it can be difficult to confront the reality of our own mortality. It's natural to feel invincible, to think that we have plenty of time ahead of us. But the truth is, death can strike at any moment, regardless of our age. As the Bible says, "It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). This reality can be unsettling, but it can also be a wake-up call to live life to the fullest and to prioritize our spiritual lives.
The Bible teaches us that our hope and security should not be in this life, but in the life to come. We are to "set our minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Colossians 3:2). This means that we should be looking to God, not just as a distant figure, but as a present and loving Father who is always with us. We should be building our hope on Him, and trusting in His promises. As the Psalmist says, "The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O God, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands" (Psalm 138:8).
In the face of mortality, we have a choice to make. We can either let fear and anxiety grip us, or we can choose to trust in God and His goodness. We can choose to live a life that is marked by faith, hope, and love, rather than one that is controlled by fear and uncertainty. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). Let us choose to trust in God's plans, and to live a life that is surrendered to Him. Let us choose to face mortality with confidence and hope, knowing that we are not alone, and that God is with us every step of the way.
