Taking Care of Yourself

As a Christian, taking care of yourself is not just a physical necessity, but also a spiritual one. God commands us to love and care for our bodies, which are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). This means making time for self-care, getting enough rest, eating nutritious food, and exercising regularly. However, self-care is not just about physical health; it's also about spiritual nourishment. This includes spending time in prayer, reading the Bible, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.

When it comes to taking care of yourself, it's also important to recognize the difference between therapeutic and normal care. Therapeutic care is the kind that targets a particular pathology or wards off some attack on bodily well-being. This is not the same as normal care, which involves removing food and water, for example. While therapeutic care may be necessary at times, normal care is essential for maintaining overall well-being. This includes activities like exercise, meditation, and spending time in nature.

As a Christian, we have the power to pray for healing and restoration when we're feeling unwell. This is not just about physical healing, but also about emotional and spiritual healing. When we pray for healing, we're not just asking God to fix our bodies, but also to restore our souls and spirits. This requires faith and trust in God's goodness and sovereignty. As Psalm 30:2 says, "O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me." May we all learn to trust in God's healing power and to take care of ourselves in body, soul, and spirit. Amen. (Mark 2:17) "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." This verse reminds us that we all need God's healing and restoration, and that it's never too late to seek Him.
