The Dilemma of Safety and Freedom

When our plans are constantly being disrupted, it can be challenging to choose between safety and freedom. On one hand, safety can provide a sense of security and protection, but it can also limit our freedom to make choices and live life to the fullest. On the other hand, freedom can give us the ability to make choices and live life on our own terms, but it can also expose us to risks and uncertainties. In order to navigate this dilemma, we need to understand what freedom really means and how it relates to our choices.

Understanding Freedom

From a biblical perspective, freedom is not just the ability to choose between options, but it is also the freedom to choose the one particular thing that is commanded by God and refusing the contrary (Deuteronomy 30:19). This means that true freedom is not just about making choices, but it is also about making choices that align with God's will and purpose for our lives. In this sense, freedom is not just a general, abstract concept, but it is specifically spiritual and moral, freedom from sin and freedom to live as God intended human beings to live (Galatians 5:1).

Choosing Safety or Freedom

When faced with the dilemma of safety and freedom, we need to consider what is truly important to us. Do we value safety and security above all else, or do we value freedom and the ability to make choices and live life on our own terms? The Bible teaches us that God is in control of all the circumstances that bear on our situation, and He promises to give His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways (Psalm 91:11). Therefore, we can trust in God's sovereignty and protection, and choose to live life with freedom and confidence, knowing that He is always with us and will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Ultimately, the choice between safety and freedom is a personal one, and it requires us to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, and to make choices that align with His will and purpose for our lives.
