Understanding God's Distance

When we feel like God is distant, it can be a confusing and frustrating experience, especially when we need Him most. As Isaiah says, "What is keeping you from God?" (Isaiah 59:2). We may look at God and wonder why He seems so far away and unresponsive. However, the truth is that God is seeking us more than we are seeking Him. As someone once said, "When I was looking for God, He found me." This realization can be a game-changer in our relationship with God.

Roadblocks to God

There are several reasons why we may feel like God is distant. Sometimes, we may be putting up roadblocks in our own minds and hearts that prevent us from experiencing God's presence. We may be indifferent to God's love and care, or we may be trying to control our relationship with Him rather than surrendering to His sovereignty. Additionally, we may be struggling with feelings of guilt, shame, or unworthiness that make us feel like God is far away. However, the good news is that God's words of comfort and direction are nearly limitless, and He is always seeking to draw us closer to Himself.

God's Love and Presence

Despite our feelings of distance, God is always present and working in our lives. His love for us is not based on our worthiness, but on His own character as a loving Father. He is not distant because He doesn't care about us, but because He is giving us space to grow and mature in our faith. When we feel like God is distant, it's often because we are not yet ready to receive the answer or experience we are seeking. However, this doesn't mean that God is not near. He is always near, working in our lives, guiding us, and loving us. We just need to be still, listen to His voice, and trust in His sovereignty. As the Psalmist says, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).
