What's the point of fighting when I'm just going to lose anyway?
The point of fighting when it seems like you're going to lose anyway is not about winning or losing in the external world, but about establishing victory in your mind and heart. As the Scripture says, "If you want victory, you have to be ready to fight. If you're not ready to fight, you're not going to win" (emphasis added). The battle for your life is fought and won in your mind, and God wants you to take control of your mind through the power of His Holy Spirit.
This mindset is crucial because, as Christians, we may not win every battle on this earth. Our ultimate victory is in heaven, and our lap is in heaven (Philippians 3:20-21). However, we can still experience victory in our lives by fighting the good fight of faith. This means engaging the opposition in every facet of life, from contact sports to military training, and also in spiritual combat. We must be willing to fight for our minds, hearts, and lives, even when it seems like the odds are against us.
The key to winning this battle is not our own strength or abilities, but the power of Christ and His accomplished work on the cross. Jesus gives us the nikos, or the victory, and establishes a beachhead of victory so we can move forward (John 16:33). We must decide right now, today, to change the story of our lives and take control of our minds, hearts, and lives through the power of His Holy Spirit. We don't have to fight alone, either - God gives us other people to support us in the battle, and the church functions like a tag-team wrestling match to help us persevere. Ultimately, our battle isn't won because the pressure lifts from our lives or because our circumstances change, but because of our close association with Christ and His victory.
