The Battle is Lost in the External World

The point of fighting is not to win in the external world, but to engage in spiritual combat before God. When we try to fight the battle in the external world first, we will inevitably lose. This is because our greatest enemy is not the opposition, but our own self-centered heart. The Bible says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, we must first engage the battle in the spiritual realm, before we can effectively fight in the external world.

The Importance of Spiritual Preparation

Spiritual preparation is essential for fighting the battle of faith. This involves getting alone with God, examining our own hearts, and repenting of our self-centeredness. We must also seek spiritual resources from God, such as the Holy Spirit, to empower us for the fight. As Paul says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). Without spiritual preparation, we will not have the strength to fight the battle of faith. Our physical weakness should not motivate us to engage in spiritual battle, but rather our knowledge of our self-centered heart and our desire to please God.

The Value of Community

Finally, we must not fight alone. God gives us the church as a community to support and encourage us in the fight of faith. We can call on other believers for help when we feel exhausted or overwhelmed. The church functions like a tag-team wrestling match, where one believer can support and empower another. As we fight together, we can experience the power of God in our lives and emerge victorious, even if we do not win in the external world. As Jesus said, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them" (Matthew 18:20). With the support of the church and the power of God, we can fight the battle of faith with confidence and perseverance.
