Faith in the Midst of Adversity

When everything falls apart, it can be challenging to maintain our faith. However, it is during these difficult times that our faith is put to the test. The Bible reminds us that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). This means that our faith is strengthened through our personal relationship with God and our understanding of His Word. When we experience adversity, we must seek to deepen our relationship with God and increase our knowledge of His Word. This can be achieved through daily personal time with God, where we talk to Him and He talks to us, and through regular attendance at meetings where we can listen to preaching and teaching of God's Word.

Prayer and Trust in God

In times of adversity, it is essential to pray specifically about any obstacle in our life. We should ask God to enlighten us, give us strength to overcome the roadblocks, and provide us with the power to persevere. The Bible teaches us that "faith unto salvation" (1 Peter 1:5) is sustained by God, and that we are not strong enough to fall away while God is resolved to hold us. This means that we can trust in God's sovereignty and provision, even when we don't understand what is happening. We should not try to force faith upon ourselves through frenzied prayer or great emotional effort, but rather, we should commit to the Person of Jesus Christ and trust in His promises.

Moment-by-Moment Trust

When faced with adversity, we should trust God for guidance in small increments. We should do what lies clearly at hand and seek light for the next step. This requires moment-by-moment trust in God's provision and sovereignty. The Bible reminds us that "He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:24). This means that we can trust in God's faithfulness, even when we don't see the outcome. By committing to God's promises and trusting in His sovereignty, we can develop dynamic faith that will sustain us in the midst of adversity. Ultimately, our faith will not fail while God sustains it, and we can have confidence that He will do what He has promised.
