Why Does God Feel So Distant When I Need Him Most?

When we feel distant from God, it is often because we have placed our focus on our own desires and expectations, rather than seeking Him for who He is. The Bible teaches us that God is always present and seeking us, but we may not always be aware of His presence (Psalm 139:1-12). Our brains and consciousness are powerful evidence of God's existence, but our sense of being and awareness are even stronger proof that we are more than just physical beings (Psalm 8:4-8). God's presence is now made visible through Jesus Christ, who lives in us through the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17).

However, our relationship with God can be hindered by various obstacles, such as our own sinful nature, the world's influence, and our lack of faith. We may feel like God is distant because we are not seeking Him earnestly, or because we are more interested in our own desires and happiness than in knowing and serving Him. The Bible encourages us to seek God with all our heart, and promises that we will find Him if we do (Jeremiah 29:13). We must also be aware that God's purposes may not always align with our own, and that He may allow us to experience suffering or difficulties in order to develop character and lean on Him (Romans 5:3-4).

Ultimately, God's love for us is not based on our worthiness, but on His own character and nature as a loving and merciful God (Ephesians 2:4). He desires a personal relationship with us, and offers us the opportunity to know Him, but He will not force Himself on us. When we seek Him with all our heart, God promises to reward us with a deeper understanding of Himself and a more intimate relationship with Him (Hebrews 11:6). Therefore, instead of asking why God feels distant, we should ask ourselves why we are not seeking Him more earnestly, and what obstacles are hindering our relationship with Him. By doing so, we can begin to experience God's presence and love in a more profound way.
