The Intimacy of Human Relationships

As Christians, we understand that our relationship with God is far deeper and more intimate than any other relationship. However, when we are in conflict with God, our relationships with others are also affected. This is because our relationship with God is not isolated, but is connected to all of our other relationships. When we sin against God, it can lead to a disturbance in our relationships with others, causing fights and quarrels among us.

The Causes of War

The Bible teaches us that the causes of war are rooted in our desires and the battle within us. James 4:1-2 says, "What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get, so you quarrel and fight." This is a fundamental truth that applies to all areas of life, including our personal relationships and our relationships with others. When we are not united, everything falls apart, and this is especially true in the context of war.

The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

As Christians, we are in a war, a spiritual war that is not always visible to the naked eye. The enemy seeks to destroy our relationships with God and with others, and to capture our minds and hearts. This is a fierce and intense warfare, as described in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. We must be vigilant and aware of the spiritual forces at work in our lives, and we must seek to live in unity and harmony with one another, as God desires. By doing so, we can avoid the destructive effects of war and build strong, healthy relationships with others.
