Balancing Desire to Serve God with Personal Desires

To balance our desire to serve God with our personal desires, we must first understand that our true desire should be to serve God. This means surrendering our personal plans and ambitions to God's will and purpose. We must be willing to let go of our own desires and preferences and allow God to guide us. As the Scripture says, "But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith that was later revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith" (Galatians 3:23-24). We must seek God's purpose and will above our own desires.

However, it is also important to recognize that God has made us with natural talents and abilities, and He may draw upon these in serving Him. But, we must be careful not to let our personal interests and ambitions overshadow our desire to serve God. As Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other" (Matthew 6:24). We must choose between serving God and serving ourselves.

To balance our desire to serve God with our personal desires, we must continually seek God's will and purpose in our lives. We must be sensitive to God's Spirit and choose requests that are important to His kingdom. We must also examine our reasons for serving God and ensure that they are grounded on the redemption of Jesus Christ. As the Scripture says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). We must trust in God's goodness and provision and seek to align our desires with His will.
