The Elusive Nature of Security

The Bible teaches us that true security lies not in material possessions, wealth, or retirement accounts, but in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The pursuit of material security is a futile endeavor, as it is built on shifting sands and can be easily lost. The writer of Proverbs warns, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal." (Matthew 6:19-20) Instead, we are called to store up treasures in heaven, where they will be secure and eternal.

The Folly of Relying on Human Means

Relying on human means, such as retirement insurance and accounts, to provide security is also a folly. These measures may offer a temporary sense of security, but they are ultimately unreliable and can be easily stripped away. The Bible teaches us to trust in God's sovereignty and providence, rather than relying on human systems and institutions. Psalm 37:3-5 says, "Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." By trusting in God, we can experience true security and peace, even in the midst of uncertainty.

Finding Security in God

So, can you still have a sense of security after losing your retirement? The answer is yes, but not in the way the world would define it. True security is found in a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. When we trust in Him, we can experience peace and security that transcends earthly circumstances. The Bible says, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27) By putting our trust in God, we can find security that is not shaken by the uncertainties of life. This is a security that is not based on material possessions or human means, but on the unshakeable promises of God.
