The Value of Parenting in the Face of Mortality

As a Christian parent, it's natural to wonder if we can still be good parents if we're dying. The Bible teaches us that parenting is a valuable and enduring investment in our children's lives. In fact, research suggests that children who grow up in married, two-parent families have two to three times more positive life outcomes than those who don't. This is a powerful reminder of the importance of our role as parents, even in the face of mortality.

The Responsibility of Parenting

While our physical health may decline, our responsibility as parents remains. We must continue to teach our children the gospel, exemplify love for all things pure and holy, and be an example of godly faith. As the Bible says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). This means that even as we near the end of our lives, we must continue to invest in our children's spiritual development.

The Power of Prayer

In the face of mortality, we may feel powerless to shape our children's lives. But as Christians, we know that prayer is a powerful tool that can bring about transformation and healing. As parents, we can become prayer warriors, interceding on behalf of our children and seeking God's guidance and provision. We can ask God to give us the wisdom and strength we need to continue parenting our children, even in the midst of our own mortality. As the Bible says, "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective" (James 5:16). Let us continue to pray for our children, even as we near the end of our lives, trusting that God will hear and answer our prayers.
