Your Question:
Why did God have to take away my sense of security?
Answer:
As I reflect on the question of why God had to take away my sense of security, I'm reminded of the story of Job. Job, a righteous man, experienced God's unceasing inspection, which left him feeling like a nuisance and an obstacle. God's scrutiny made Job question whether God was listening to his prayers or if He favored his husband over him. In a similar way, I've wondered why God would take away my sense of security. Perhaps it's to make sure that I, like Job, would truly fear and trust in God. The Bible teaches that true fear of the Lord is demonstrated by obeying His commands and serving Him (Deuteronomy 4:10, 5:29, 6:13, 24, 8:6, 10:12, 20, 13:4, 17:19, 28:58, 31:12-13). This kind of fear requires me to surrender my own desires and will to God's, even when it's hard or uncomfortable. In my own life, I've learned that God's presence is my greatest blessing (Psalm 139). While it's true that God could accomplish His purposes without me, it's to my gain that He permits me to know and serve Him. When I'm faced with difficulties and uncertainties, I'm reminded that God is still in control, and His ways are not my ways. I can trust that He is working all things together for my good, even when I don't understand why He's taking away my sense of security (Romans 8:28).
