The Problem of Suffering

When we suffer, we often question God's goodness and motives. We wonder, "Why must I suffer so?" This question is natural and understandable. However, we must not assume that God is making us jump through unnecessary hoops or that He is dealing too harshly with us. Instead, we must trust that God has a good reason for permitting us to suffer, even if we don't understand it. As the Bible says, "God, I don't know what you are doing, but you do, and that is enough." (Psalm 115:3)

God's Sovereignty and Our Suffering

God is sovereign over all creation, including our lives. He knows our deepest needs and desires, and He is working all things together for our good. Sometimes, God allows us to suffer so that we can experience His presence and power in a deeper way. This suffering can be a refining process, helping us to trust God more fully and to rely on Him for our strength. As Jesus said, "In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) We can trust that God is working through our suffering to bring us closer to Himself.

The Example of Jesus

Jesus, the Son of God, suffered greatly on our behalf. He was tempted in every way, yet without sin. He suffered on the cross, taking the punishment for our sins upon Himself. And why did He do this? Because He loves us so much. He didn't ask us to believe in Him because He was on a divine ego trip, but because He wants a personal relationship with us. When we suffer, we can trust that God is working through it to bring us closer to Himself. As the Bible says, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28) We can trust that God is working all things together for our good, even when we suffer.
