The Value of Humility in the Face of Success and Recognition

Humility is a virtue that is essential in the face of success and recognition, particularly when our actions have a ripple effect on the world. As the Bible teaches, humility is a commitment to truth wherever it leads, and a willingness to adjust our theological understanding or refine our moral judgments (Ezek. 28:2). When we are successful and recognized, it can be easy to become haughty and proud, but this attitude can lead to consequences that can wreck and break others (Ezek. 28:2). True humility, on the other hand, reflects a commitment to embracing truth and recognizing the limitations of our knowledge and understanding.

In the face of success and recognition, humility also means being thankful to God and acknowledging our dependence on Him. As Andrew Murray points out, human humility is grounded in our very existence as creatures, and we are beholden to our Creator for every good thing we have (Phil. 2:5-11).
