The Struggle is Real: A Parent's Perspective

As a parent, it can be overwhelming to feel like you're failing in your role. The pressure to provide for your children, manage the household, and maintain a career can be crushing at times. It's easy to get caught up in the desire to manage and control everything, but this can lead to feelings of guilt, shame, and inadequacy. According to the Bible, "all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). This means that even the best parents will make mistakes and experience failure. The key is to recognize that failure is not a reflection of our worth as individuals, but rather an opportunity to learn and grow.

The Root of the Struggle

So, why do we feel like we're failing as parents? Is it because of the pressure to succeed, or the fear of not meeting our children's expectations? Perhaps it's because we're trying to control every aspect of our children's lives, rather than trusting in God's sovereignty. As the Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). When we take our eyes off of God and focus on our own abilities, we can become overwhelmed and feel like we're failing. It's essential to examine our values and motivations, and ask ourselves if they are aligned with God's will.

A Call to Action

So, what can we do to overcome the feeling of failure as parents? First, we need to recognize that our worth is not defined by our success or failure as parents. Our value comes from being children of God, and our identity is found in Christ. Second, we need to take a step back and re-evaluate our values and motivations. Are we trying to control every aspect of our children's lives, or are we trusting in God's sovereignty? Finally, we need to take small steps to engage in the struggle, and seek guidance from God's Word. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). With God's guidance and support, we can overcome the feeling of failure and become the parents He has called us to be.
