The Principle of Tithing in the New Covenant

The principle of tithing is not abolished in the New Covenant. While the Law prescribed that certain crops be tithed, the principle of giving a portion of one's income to God is still applicable today. In fact, Jesus commended the Pharisees for their meticulousness in tithing even the smallest pieces of produce, but criticized them for neglecting the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy (Matt. 23:23). This suggests that tithing is still a valid principle in the New Covenant, but it should not be done at the expense of more important matters.

Paul's Teaching on Giving

Paul's discussions of giving range widely, covering contentment, greed, the futility of riches, and being rich in faith.
