God's View of Human Life

According to the Bible, God views human life as being made in His image (Gen 1:26-27). This means that humans have the capacity to reason, make moral choices, and understand the consequences of their actions. God's image in humans is what distinguishes them from the rest of creation (Ps 8:4-8). This image is not just a psychological or spiritual quality, but a multifaceted aspect of humanity that encompasses our relational, substantive, and functional nature.

The Significance of Human Life

God's view of human life is not just a theoretical concept, but a relational reality. He sees humans as His creation, made in His image, and loved by Him. He desires a proper relationship with humans, characterized by the fear of God and ethical behavior (Ps 34:14-15). This relationship is the primary one in human existence, and when it is right, other dimensions of life are positively affected. God's view of human life is also one of hope and redemption, as He is the Author of Life and has the power to restore it to those who have lost it (Ps 73:23-26).

God's Sovereignty and Human Freedom

God's view of human life is not a deterministic one, where human actions are predetermined by Him. Rather, He sees humans as making free choices, which He knows and understands perfectly (Is 48:10). This means that human actions have consequences, and God's sovereignty is not a negation of human freedom, but rather a working together with it to achieve His purposes (Ps 135:6). Ultimately, God's view of human life is one of love and redemption, where He desires a relationship with humans that is characterized by trust, obedience, and mutual love. This view of human life is one of hope and promise, where humans can live a life that is deeply satisfying and meaningful, both in this world and in the world to come.
