Biblical Answer

The Bible has a lot to say about anger, and it's not always easy to understand. On one hand, Scripture says that we shouldn't let anger control us (Eph 4:2-6). It's not a good thing to let our emotions get the best of us, and it can lead to all sorts of problems. James 1:20 says that human anger doesn't produce the righteousness that God desires. When we respond to anger with anger, it only leads to more conflict and hurt.

On the other hand, the Bible also says that it's okay to feel angry about certain things, like injustice and cruelty. Jeremiah was full of the fury of the Lord (Jer 6:11), and Paul was angry over the suffering of the early church (2 Cor 7:11). In fact, the Bible says that it's a good thing to be angry at sin, even if we're not angry at the sinner themselves (2 Cor 7:11). So what's the difference? The key is to understand that anger is ultimately about God. When we get angry, it shows that we don't trust him, and it becomes an opportunity to know him better. What we come to understand will surprise us.

So, how can we navigate these complex feelings of anger in a way that honors God? First, we need to recognize that our anger reveals more about our own heart than it does about the other person. When we get angry, it's often because we're feeling threatened or hurt in some way. But if we can take a step back and examine our own heart, we might discover that our anger is actually a sign of our own lack of trust in God. Second, we need to remember that God's anger is an expression of his love. If we don't get angry, we don't love. If we witness injustice and are unmoved, we don't love the victim. So, let's not be afraid to feel angry about the things that matter to God. But let's also be careful not to let our anger control us, and instead, let's use it as an opportunity to know God better.
