The Illusion of Control

You may have felt a sense of control over your life, but this illusion is a deception. We are not in control of our spiritual formation, and our lives are not entirely our own. This is a hard lesson for followers of Jesus to learn, but it is a crucial one. We cannot control our spiritual lives, and our attempts to do so can lead to frustration and disappointment.

The Sovereignty of God

God's sovereignty is a key aspect of this issue. He is the one who is truly in control, and He has a plan for our lives. This plan is not always clear to us, but it is always good. When we try to take control of our lives, we are essentially trying to take control away from God. This is not only futile but also disobedient. As the Bible says, "God stretches out His hands all day long to those who are rebellious, to those who set a defiant muzzle in His face" (Isaiah 65:2). When we try to control our lives, we are setting a defiant muzzle in God's face, refusing to submit to His sovereignty.

Breaking Free from the Illusion

To break free from the illusion of control, we must surrender to God's sovereignty. This means acknowledging that He is the one who is truly in control and that our lives are not our own. It means trusting in His plan and His goodness, even when we don't understand what is happening. This surrender is not a one-time event but a ongoing process. It requires us to continually submit to God's authority and to trust in His goodness. As we do this, we will begin to see the world and our lives in a new light. We will see that God is truly in control, and that His sovereignty is a blessing, not a curse. We will also begin to experience the joy and freedom that come from living in submission to God's will.
