The Freedom of Surrender

Can I really give up my business and move on? This question is a common one for many entrepreneurs and business owners. The thought of surrendering control and giving up on a venture that has consumed their time and energy can be daunting. However, as we explore the biblical perspective on surrender and perseverance, we will see that giving up may not be as daunting as it seems.

The Importance of Surrender

The Bible teaches us that surrender is a necessary part of growth and progress. In 1 Corinthians 10:13, Paul writes, "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." This verse reminds us that God is always present and provides a way out of difficult situations. When we surrender to Him, we are not giving up, but rather, we are giving control to the One who has the power to guide us through the storm. In the book of Job, we see a man who has lost everything, but yet, he refuses to give up. He says, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him" (Job 13:15). This is the spirit of surrender, trusting in God's sovereignty, even in the midst of uncertainty.

The Freedom of Perseverance

While surrender is necessary, perseverance is equally important. As we see in the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8), God is not a respecter of persons, and He rewards those who persevere in prayer and faith. When we persevere, we are not giving up, but rather, we are pressing on, trusting that God will see us through. In 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, Paul writes, "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." This is the spirit of perseverance, trusting that God will sustain us, even in the midst of adversity. When we surrender to God and persevere in faith, we find the freedom to move on, not because we have given up, but because we have given control to the One who has the power to guide us through the storm. As the Bible reminds us, "We are more than conquerors through him who loved us" (Romans 8:37). This is the freedom of surrender and perseverance.
