Can I still be a good parent if I'm dying?
The Value of Parenting Despite Mortality
As a Christian, I want to assure you that being a good parent is not measured by your physical existence or the outcome of your children's lives. The value of parenting is not diminished by the possibility of mortality. In fact, the Bible teaches us that the bond between a parent and child is a sacred and enduring relationship that can have a profound impact on a child's life (Proverbs 22:6). The promise of a good relationship with parents can yield a long and flourishing life (Psalm 128:1-4). This is not to say that every child will turn out perfectly or that every parent will live a long life. However, it is generally true that good teaching and discipline in a family will strike a positive response from a child.
The Responsibility of Parenting
As a parent, you have a responsibility to be an example of godly faith, to teach your children the gospel, and to exemplify love for all things pure and holy. This is not a selfish endeavor, but rather a selfless one. You are not the sole provider of your child's salvation, but you play a crucial role in their spiritual development. You can assure your child that they are loved and accepted and valued for who they are, not just for their achievements or behavior. This is the parents duty, to live out the gospel to the child (Matthew 22:37-40). By doing so, you are giving your child the greatest gift of all – a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Prayer and Parenting
As a parent, you are not alone in the battle for your child's life. You can become a prayer warrior and go to battle against the forces of evil on your child's behalf. This is not a guarantee of success, but it is a promise of God's presence and power in your life. You can pray for your child's salvation, for their spiritual growth, and for their well-being. You can pray for the Holy Spirit to fill your child's life and to guide them on their journey. As you pray, remember that God is sovereign and that He is working all things together for good (Romans 8:28). May you find comfort and strength in this knowledge, and may you be a source of hope and encouragement to your child, even in the face of mortality.
