Your Question:
What's the best way to explain this to my friends?
Answer:
You know, I think the best way to explain this to my friends is to invite them into our home. When they're around our family, you see a different side of them. Sometimes, our kids' friends are able to let their guard down and be themselves. It's amazing how a family dinner can reveal a person's true character. Like the example in Proverbs, we can observe people's behavior and make judgments about them. But it's not always easy to discern whether someone is a true friend or a counterfeit one. True friends stick closer than a brother and are always there for you, even in times of prosperity or adversity. They also encourage and affirm one another, but also offer constructive criticism when needed. When I'm trying to determine if someone is a good friend, I ask myself if they would be willing to listen to me and my family, even when we disagree. Would they be willing to have a honest conversation with me, even if it's uncomfortable? These are the kinds of questions that help me discern whether someone is a true friend or not.
