Can I still find purpose in life with a terminal illness?

The Purpose of Life Remains, Even in Suffering

When faced with a terminal illness, it's natural to question the purpose of life. However, as followers of Jesus, we can find comfort in the fact that our purpose remains intact, even in the midst of suffering. Our purpose is not defined by our circumstances, but by our relationship with God. As the Bible says, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). Our purpose is to live a life that reflects God's love and character, and to share that love with others.

Finding Purpose in Suffering

In fact, suffering can be an opportunity to discover new ways of fulfilling our purpose. As the Bible says, "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). When we face a terminal illness, we may need to update our life plan and find new ways to care for others, but our purpose remains the same. We can still be an ambassador of hope to those around us, and we can still share the love of Christ with others. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).

A Life of Purpose in the Face of Death

Even in the face of death, we can find purpose in living a life that reflects God's love and character. As the Bible says, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). Our purpose is not defined by our physical life, but by our spiritual life. We can still live a life of purpose and meaning, even in the face of terminal illness, by focusing on our relationship with God and sharing that love with others. As the Bible says, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). Our purpose remains, even in suffering, and we can find joy and meaning in living a life that reflects God's love.
