Biblical Answer

As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with feeling weak and overwhelmed. I've found that the best way to pray for strength in those moments is to put on the whole armor of God. This is what I pray for myself and my wife, Susan. I pray, "Lord, You have said to call upon You in the day of trouble and You will deliver us (Psalm 50:15). I call upon You now and ask that You would work deliverance in my life, deliver me from anything that binds me. Set me free from the yoke of bondage (Galatians 5:1)."

When I'm feeling weak, I also pray for the strength to take the first step. I pray, "Lord, give me the nourishment I need to overcome my own timidity and take the first step. Then give me the strength to face the next step, and the next, and the next." I remind myself that God never gives us strength for tomorrow, or for the next hour, but only for the strain of the moment. I pray for the strength to face the moment at hand, and to trust that God will give me the strength I need for the next moment.

I also believe that praying with others can be a powerful way to receive strength. When we agree in prayer with another person, we begin to share their heart and their faith. This can be a powerful way to strengthen our faith and receive the strength we need to face challenges. I encourage my congregation to pray with one another, and to ask for prayer when they are feeling weak or overwhelmed. By praying with others, we can experience the power of God's strength in our lives.
