The Dangers of Anger

When we choose between love and anger, we must be aware of the dangers of anger. Anger reveals more about our own heart than it does about the other person. It is a shortcut that is doomed to fail. Anger is ultimately about God, and it shows that we dont trust him. It becomes an opportunity to know him better, and what we come to understand will surprise us. When we are angry, we are more vulnerable to sexual temptation, and our thinking and decision-making ability are distorted. Anger is about not getting what we want, and what we want may include what we deserve.

The Consequences of Anger

If we allow anger to linger, opportunity comes to the devil. Anger should not be suppressed or vented, as it can do further damage. We must learn to control how others actions affect us, and we should not let someones anger destroy the love we have. Children and adults alike should not let someones anger destroy the love they have. We must be aware of the consequences of anger, and we must take our souls to task when we are dominated by anger. When we begin to take our souls to task, we will be less likely to give into our rage.

The Power of Love

Love, on the other hand, is quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry (James 1:19). Love remembers its own offences and sins and the great forgiveness received, and therefore does not constantly pick at others. Love is not an emotion, but a choice. When we choose love, we are choosing to trust God, and we are choosing to see the world from His perspective. We are choosing to see that God is in control, and that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). When we choose love, we are choosing to see the world as a place of beauty and wonder, rather than a place of anger and frustration.
