Understanding Biblical Teachings on Love

The Bible teaches that love is not just a feeling, but a decision to act in spite of how we feel. This is evident in Jesus' teaching on loving our enemies (Matthew 5:44). He is not talking about romantic love or affection, but a selfless and sacrificial love that seeks the best for others, even if they are our enemies. This kind of love is not limited to the New Testament, but is also present in the Old Testament (Exodus 23:4-5, Leviticus 19:18, Job 31:29-30).

The Scope of Biblical Love

This may involve sacrificing our own interests and desires for the sake of others, and seeking to do good to those who may not deserve it (Matthew 5:44-45). By doing so, we demonstrate our commitment to following Jesus' teachings and reflecting God's love in our lives.
