Your Question:
Can I really blame God for this?
Answer:
Blaming God for our actions is never an option. As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with this very issue. When we blame God, we're essentially saying that He's responsible for our sin, and that's a blasphemy against His character. Scripture is clear that God is not to be blamed for sin, it's always the creature, not God, who is to blame. As I reflect on my own life, I recall instances when I've felt like blaming God for my circumstances. But I've come to realize that it's always me who's responsible for my actions. When I blamed my wife Susan for my heavy drinking, I was trying to cover up and shift the responsibility. But I was wrong, and I'm grateful that she forgave me. It's humbling to ask for forgiveness, and it's a hard thing to do, but it's essential for our spiritual growth. The Bible teaches us that God holds us accountable for our own faults. We can't blame God for our sin, and we can't hide from our responsibilities. As Psalm 17:7-8 says, "You who save those who trust in You from those who rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings." This verse reminds us that God is our protector and our Savior, but it also holds us accountable for our actions. We must take responsibility for our sin and not blame God for it.
