Can I really trust God when I'm feeling so lost?
Trust in God Amidst Uncertainty and Loss
When we're feeling lost and uncertain, it's natural to question God's presence and sovereignty in our lives. We may wonder if we can really trust Him when everything seems to be falling apart. The Bible reminds us that God is a God of hope and redemption, even in the midst of uncertainty and loss. In Matthew 9:29, Jesus encourages us to have faith in God, saying "According to your faith let it be to you." This verse encourages us to trust in God's goodness and power, even when we can't see the outcome of our circumstances.
The Paradox of Trusting God
Trusting God is a paradoxical act that requires us to surrender our own understanding and control to His sovereignty. When we trust God, we're not necessarily saying that we'll stop trying or that we'll be passive in the face of adversity. Rather, we're saying that we need Jesus and that our search for self-satisfaction has been a failure. We're turning to the One who has been our true destination all along. This trust is built on the fact that God is holy love, and that He has suffered on account of evil in the world. While it's natural to ask why God doesn't remove evil, we must trust that He is great and all-sufficient, even in the midst of suffering.
Building Faith through Practice
To build our faith in God, we must practice the presence of God in our daily lives. Brother Lawrence wrote that we build our faith by "the practice of the presence of God" (see 1 Corinthians 2:11-14). When we're constantly talking to Christ and seeking His guidance, we'll find it easier to trust Him, even in the midst of uncertainty and loss. This requires us to surrender our own understanding and control to His sovereignty, and to trust that He is working all things for our good (Romans 8:28). By practicing the presence of God, we'll find that our faith grows stronger, and we'll be able to trust Him even when the odds seem overwhelming.
