Your Question:
what's the point of praying if god doesn't answer?
Answer:
As a pastor and a man of faith, I've often been asked this question by people who struggle with the idea of prayer and whether God truly answers. The truth is, God does answer our prayers, but it's not always in the way we expect or want. Sometimes, we don't receive the answer we're looking for because we haven't asked for it with enough persistence and faith. James tells us that if we don't ask, we won't receive, and Jesus encourages us to ask with importunity, or shamelessness. It's also important to understand that God's answers may not always be immediate or tangible. He may answer our prayers in ways we can't even imagine, and His ways are often far greater than our own. We must beware of being infected by a secular worldview that assumes God will answer prayer only very seldom, if ever. Instead, we must trust in His goodness and power to work in our lives, even when we don't see the answers we're looking for. Ultimately, the purpose of prayer is not just to get what we want, but to maintain an ongoing conversation and build an intimate relationship with God. He hears every prayer we pray, and we must trust that He is working in our lives, even when we don't see the answers we're looking for. As I often tell my congregation, faith is not about getting what we want, but about trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we don't understand.
