The Illusion of Identity

You may feel like you're losing your identity, but this feeling is often a symptom of a deeper struggle. Your heart is under assault, and it could be that you're losing primarily through neglect. Nobody ever told you to keep a close check on your hearts. The contemporary culture emphasizes the importance of self-expression and individuality, but this can lead to an identity crisis. You may feel like you're trying to find yourself, but the more you try, the more lost you become.

The True Identity

As a Christian, your true identity is not something you need to discover or create. It's not something you can define through your experiences, emotions, or relationships. Your true identity is in Jesus Christ. You are a sinner saved by grace, a brand-new creation, as 2 Corinthians 5:17 points out. The old has passed away, and the new you has arrived. You were born again to a brand-new life, and in Jesus Christ, you are not your own person. You are owned by Him. This identity is not something you need to pursue or express through your actions or emotions. It's a gift from God, and it's the foundation of your true identity.

The Dangers of Self-Discovery

The pursuit of self-discovery can lead to an identity crisis. You may feel like you're trying to find yourself, but the more you try, the more lost you become. This is because your identity is not something you can define through your experiences, emotions, or relationships. It's not something you can create or express through your actions or emotions. Your true identity is in Jesus Christ, and it's the foundation of your true self. Don't try to find yourself; instead, look to Jesus Christ to define you. He wants to define you by His scars, and He wants to remove your old identity and replace it with a brand-new one. First John 3:1 says, "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" You are a child of God, and that's your true identity. Don't let the world define you; let Jesus define you.
