Biblical Answer

The purpose of life is not something that can be discovered by human reason or science. According to the biblical view, the purpose of life is given by God himself. The Bible teaches that we were created by God and for God, and that our purpose in life is to know, love, and serve Him (Psalm 119:37; Matthew 22:37-40). This purpose is not something that we can find on our own, but rather it is something that we must discover through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

For the atheist, the purpose of life may seem to be nothing more than a pointless existence. Without God, life is seen as a mere accident, and our existence is reduced to a mere chance event. As the Bible says, "There is no purpose, no goal, no reason, for the universe" (Ecclesiastes 3:19). However, this is not the end of the story. The Bible teaches that even in the midst of disappointment and despair, we can find purpose and meaning in life through faith in Jesus Christ. By trusting in God, we can find a sense of direction and purpose that transcends the limitations of our own understanding.

In contrast, science and philosophy may offer various explanations for the purpose of life, but these explanations are ultimately insufficient. Science can provide us with knowledge about the world, but it cannot give us a sense of purpose or meaning. Philosophy can offer us various theories about the meaning of life, but these theories are often based on human reason and are therefore limited. In contrast, the Bible offers a clear and comprehensive view of the purpose of life, one that is based on God's own revelation and is therefore trustworthy. By trusting in God and following His will, we can discover a sense of purpose and meaning in life that is beyond our wildest dreams. I Corinthians 2:9 says, "However, as it is written: 'What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, what no human mind has conceived'— the things God has prepared for those who love him—" This is the kind of purpose and meaning that we can find in life through faith in Jesus Christ.
