The Storm of Judgment

As Christians, we must acknowledge that the storm of judgment from God is a reality that each person must face. This storm is not just a metaphor, but a real and present danger that looms over every person, regardless of their financial situation. When we consider the question of not being able to afford a roof over our head, we must remember that our earthly possessions are but temporary and fleeting. The Bible teaches us that "you cannot take your house with you, but you will surely take your soul with you" (Ecclesiastes 5:15). This means that our true and eternal home is not a physical dwelling, but rather our relationship with God.

The Roof of Our Lives

The concept of a roof over our head can also be seen as a metaphor for the priorities in our lives. When we build a house that is larger than our needs, it can become a hindrance to our spiritual progress. The Bible teaches us that we are aliens and pilgrims in this world, and that our true home is in heaven (Hebrews 11:13-16). When we prioritize material possessions over our relationship with God, we can become like a person wearing a shoe that is too large, hindering our step and making it difficult to move forward. This is why it is essential to regularly examine our priorities and ensure that we are not building a house that is too large for our needs.

The Parapet of Protection

The parapet that was built around the roof of a Palestinian home was designed to prevent accidental death or injury. Similarly, as Christians, we must build a parapet of protection around our lives by prioritizing our relationship with God. This means being mindful of our spending and not accumulating material possessions that can become a hindrance to our spiritual progress. By living a simple and humble life, we can avoid the storm of judgment and instead find peace and security in our relationship with God. As the Bible teaches us, "it is better to live in a corner of a roof than to share a house with a contentious woman" (Proverbs 21:9). In this sense, our roof over our head is not just a physical structure, but a reflection of our spiritual priorities.
