The Question: Is it selfish to want to prioritize my own needs for once?

The Answer:

The Bible teaches us to prioritize others before ourselves (Phil. 2:3 NASB). This doesn't mean we can't take care of our own needs, but rather that we should not prioritize them above the needs of others. In fact, Jesus teaches us to give ourselves up for others (Luke 9:23). This doesn't mean we have to be selfishly focused on others, but rather that we should be willing to sacrifice our own desires and needs for the good of others.

However, it's also important to note that prioritizing our own needs doesn't necessarily mean we are being selfish. In fact, taking care of our own physical, emotional, and spiritual health is essential to being able to serve others well (1 Tim 5:8). This is not about putting ourselves first, but rather about being responsible stewards of the gifts and abilities God has given us. As the Bible says, "You can't pour from an empty cup" (Matthew 5:8). We need to take care of ourselves so that we can serve others effectively.

So, is it selfish to want to prioritize our own needs for once? Not necessarily. It's about finding a balance between taking care of ourselves and prioritizing the needs of others. As Jesus says, "Give me all. I don't want so much of your time and so little of your money and so little of your talents. I want you" (Luke 14:33). This is about being willing to give ourselves up for the good of others, while also taking care of our own needs. It's not about being selfish, but about being responsible stewards of the gifts and abilities God has given us.
