Why is God testing me with chronic pain?
Understanding Gods Sovereignty Over Suffering
Suffering, including chronic pain, is a reality that many people face. When we experience pain, it's natural to wonder why God allows it. However, we must understand that God is sovereign over all things, including suffering. He knows and wills everything that happens, even the painful things. This means that when suffering or depression comes to our doorstep, God did it. To believe otherwise is to opt for a false sense of control and a lack of trust in God's sovereignty.
The Purpose of Gods Sovereignty
So, why does God allow suffering? The Bible teaches that sin can lead to affliction (Psalm 38:3). David, the author of this psalm, describes his physical and psychological pain, which is a result of his sin. Similarly, Jesus suffered on the cross, and his agony was both physical and psychological. Pain and suffering are not the result of God's indifference or lack of love, but rather a consequence of sin. By allowing us to experience suffering, God is teaching us valuable lessons about our dependence on Him and our need for Him. He is also using our suffering to conform us to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).
Removing Obstacles to Faith
When we face chronic pain, it's easy to question God's love and sovereignty. We may wonder if He is aloof and distant, or if He is even capable of intervening in our lives. However, we must not assume that God is making us jump through unnecessary hoops. He is the One Who suffered for us, and He doesn't ask us to believe because He is on a divine ego trip, but because He loves us and wants us to have a personal relationship with Him. By understanding God's sovereignty over suffering, we can begin to see that our pain is not a reflection of His love or lack thereof, but rather an opportunity for us to grow in our faith and dependence on Him. As we trust in His sovereignty, we can experience the peace and comfort that comes from knowing that He is always working for our good (Romans 8:28).
